The Honourable Justice John Nicholas was appointed to the Federal Court of Australia in November 2009. Prior to his Honour's appointment, Justice Nicholas practised as a solicitor and then as a barrister at the New South Wales Bar. At the Bar, Justice Nicholas was known as an intellectual property expert but he also practised in general commercial litigation. In 1991, he helped create Nigel Bowen Chambers and in 2001, was appointed Senior Counsel -- his Honour discusses his transition from the Bar to the Bench, the changes in the Federal Court's handling of IP matters since his appointment and the future challenges in IP law
